Fire Department Grants

Without the people that protect us, fires would ravage homes, communities, and lives every day. This is why fire department grants are important, essential, and critical.

The good news is that there are a few fire department grants out there to be snagged. The bad news is that this type of funding will only be rewarded to a few select fire stations. The federal funding that is available includes: Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG); Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S); and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER). In order to apply for each program, you will have to meet all eligibility requirements.

The Assistance for Firefighters Grant exists in order to help fire departments (as well as other medical services) meet the needs of the people that they protect. This type of funding will provide monies for equipment, protective clothing, vehicles, training, and various other necessary objects. The application process for this program begins during the spring of 2009. The SAFER program has been erected in order to help fire departments hire a larger number of trained personnel. This program can be awarded to fire departments as well as firefighter volunteers. The Fire Prevention and Safety Grants help to provide funding that will help to educate a population. The goal of this program is to increase public safety, build education, and help to fund various media initiatives.

All of the programs mentioned above have start and finish dates. If you are going to apply for any of the fire department grants listed, it is important that you adhere to the dates and deadlines. Additionally, you must make sure that your application is complete and informative. An incomplete application will be placed aside almost immediately causing a large amount of delay, and possible cancellation of the application. Since there are a large number of people applying for these grants, it is crucial that you have a complete package to send into each government department.

Spend some time researching the proper ways to formulate a grant package. If you feel that you cannot successfully get your point across, you may want to look into hiring a grant writer.

As you can see, there are fire department grants out there. Now, it’s just a matter of finding the one(s) that fit, and applying for them with accuracy.
